Tomoka Miyazaki Fights Hard in Indonesia Open 2025 First Round

Tomoka Miyazaki, the 2022 Junior World Champion, successfully advanced to the second round of the Indonesia Open 2025 after a tough battle against Michelle Li of Canada at Istora Senayan, Jakarta.

The match was especially personal for the young Japanese star, who had suffered a defeat at the hands of Li just five days ago in the Singapore Open 2025 quarterfinals.

Tight opening game full of momentum shifts

In the first game, both players were evenly matched — exchanging points with intensity. Miyazaki initially led 6–4, but Li quickly responded to turn the tide and grab an 8–6 lead. After several fierce rallies and equalizers, including at 10–10, Miyazaki edged ahead 11–10 at the interval.

Li’s injury and Miyazaki’s push to finish strong

After the interval, the tempo intensified. Michelle Li, despite showing signs of a knee issue, continued to fight. Miyazaki capitalized on key errors and extended her lead to 17–14. However, a net error allowed Li to close the gap to 15–17.

Ultimately, Miyazaki’s sharp net play and court control proved decisive, pushing her over the line and into the next round.
