Tim Mayer announces candidacy for FIA presidency

Tim Mayer chose Whittlebury Hall — a venue adjacent to Silverstone Circuit — to announce his candidacy for FIA president with a campaign branded ‘FIA Forward’.

In his presentation at the Hockenheim Room, the American candidate outlined his manifesto to prominent motorsport journalists — acknowledging the need for direct approach to convey his vision to voters.

Mayer explained the timing of this July announcement, waiting for the World Motorsport Council meeting in Macau that discussed campaign rules. The campaign, prepared over six months, requires funding of around 4-6 million dollars from supporters seeking change.

“FIA staff should not feel under a ‘reign of terror’ whenever they enter the office,” Mayer stated while criticizing current leadership.

Despite previously working as an FIA steward and race director under Mohammed Ben Sulayem, Mayer emphasizes his candidacy isn’t a revenge mission — but rather a desire to bring change to FIA. The official announcement on July 4th, coinciding with US Independence Day, marks the beginning of competition towards FIA presidential election this December.
