Thomas Müller ends 25-year Bayern Munich career with PSG defeat

Thomas Müller bid farewell to Bayern Munich fans following a 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup quarter-finals — ending his 25-year journey with the German club.

The 35-year-old midfielder entered as a substitute in the 80th minute, with a controversial moment occurring late in the match during a challenge with Nuno Mendes in the penalty area — but VAR ruled no infraction.

“I’m still in work mode now. It doesn’t feel much different from before the game when we tried to go one step further,” said Müller after the match.

During his Bayern career, Müller set the record for most appearances with over 200 goals and 200 assists — along with 13 Bundesliga titles. The club announced they would not extend his contract in April.

Speculation about Müller’s future points toward Major League Soccer, though the player has not officially revealed his plans after leaving Bayern Munich.
