Wimbledon Star Taylor Fritz Motivated by League of Legends Grind

American tennis star Taylor Fritz, currently ranked world number five and a Wimbledon semifinalist, recently revealed League of Legends as is his favorite esport and one that motivates him in his tennis career.

Known to be a skilled jungler in LoL, the 27-year-old athlete has reached Emerald 3 rank. This places him higher than roughly 80% of the game’s 125 million active players worldwide.

Fritz said playing ranked LoL matches has become his favorite off-court activity. He’s also impressed by the game’s long-standing esports scene, especially competitions in Europe and North America. This interest led him to attend major LoL events, including LoL Worlds 2024.

Interestingly, he half-jokingly admitted that LoL’s competitive scene pushes him to train harder in tennis. This motivation partly stems from one ranked game session where another player sarcastically told him in the chat to go outside more and touch grass.

While Fritz has no plans to become a professional LoL esports player, he’s open to participating in LoL-related events if opportunities arise in the future.

As a side note, he often streams his gameplay on his Twitch channel, Taylorfritz97, when not competing in tennis and often participated in charity events. His involvement in the LoL community has gained attention, particularly through collaborations with popular figures like caster Marc “Caedrel” Lamont and scrims with pro players, including Veljko “Velja” Čamdžić from Los Ratones.
