Tab Boyd joins Joe Gibbs Racing as Christopher Bell’s spotter

Tab Boyd, an experienced spotter who previously worked with Hendrick Motorsports and recently with Hyak Motorsports — has secured a significant new role in NASCAR.

After achieving a historic victory at the 2023 Daytona 500 with Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Boyd departed Hyak Motorsports following the Mexico City race — being replaced by Clayton Hughes ahead of the Pocono event.

Meanwhile, Joe Gibbs Racing faced a challenging situation when Stevie Reeves resigned early after learning his contract wouldn’t be extended for next season. Matt Philpott, a former JGR mechanic, temporarily filled the spotter position for the No. 20 Toyota.

JGR has now confirmed that Boyd will become the permanent spotter for Christopher Bell starting from this weekend’s EchoPark Speedway Atlanta race — though specific details remain undisclosed.
