T.J. Puchyr acquires NASCAR team Rick Ware Racing

Associated Press reports that T.J. Puchyr has reached an agreement to acquire Rick Ware Racing (RWR) — a strategic move that will transform the team into a three-car operation by 2027.

Puchyr — former co-owner of Spire Motorsports alongside Jeff Dickerson — has a strong track record in NASCAR after successfully building Spire into a competitive organization with three full-time entries.

The deal will retain Cody Ware — Rick Ware’s son — as one of the drivers. Currently, RWR operates one fully chartered car and leases another charter to RFK Racing for the No. 60 Ford.

“I’ve won at everything I’ve done at every level, and I think we can compete with these guys,” Puchyr told Associated Press. “I believe we can build it brick-by-brick and it’s going to take people, money and time.”

The team faces performance challenges — their No. 51 Ford Mustang ranks last among 36 chartered teams, with a best finish of 24th this season. RWR is also involved in a legal dispute with Legacy Motor Club regarding charter rights for the 2026 season.
