Wojciech Szczęsny — who briefly retired for a month this season, has now recorded an unbeaten streak of 17 appearances for Barcelona.

The Polish goalkeeper’s sudden retirement decision last September—accompanied by salary reimbursement to Juventus—lasted just a month while he enjoyed family time in Costa del SolMarc-André ter Stegen’s injury paved the way for his Barcelona move.

Szczęsny’s statistics with Barcelona are impressive—14 wins and three draws in 17 matches, including this week’s 4-2 victory over Atlético Madrid, further strengthening Barcelona’s position at the top of the standings.

“It’s just a coincidence we’ve never lost while I’ve been in goal — I don’t take much credit for it. The team has been unbelievable, and you just try not to mess it up for them,” Szczęsny said after the match.

Despite receiving a red card in El Clásico and facing some difficult early moments, the 34-year-old has proven to be the right choice for coach Hansi Flick. Contract extension talks are already underway with his 35th birthday approaching next month.
