Stella: Norris pushed too hard in Canadian GP qualifying

According to McLaren team principal Andrea Stella, Lando Norris pushed too hard during Canadian GP qualifying — resulting in a messy lap that placed him only seventh on the starting grid in Montreal.

After showing best performance in FP3, Norris failed to set competitive times in qualifying — the British driver admitted making several major mistakes.

“I can confirm that despite the Q3 outcome, there are steps forward in how comfortable Lando is with the car,” said Stella.

Norris’s teammate Oscar Piastri will start from third position without using the new front suspension upgrade brought by the team to Canada. Both cars ran with the changes during free practice, but Piastri opted to revert to previous specifications while Norris stuck with the new upgrade.

Stella emphasized that the speed was actually there — given another chance and not overdoing it, Norris could have fought for pole position.
