Star Goalkeeper Keylor Navas Joins Pumas from Newell’s Old Boys

According to Newell’s Old Boys’ announcement, Costa Rican goalkeeper Keylor Navas has completed his move to Liga MX Club Universidad Nacional (Pumas UNAM) for a transfer fee of $2 million.

The three-time Champions League winner with Real Madrid has signed a one-year contract — his first appearance could come in this weekend’s league match against Querétaro.

The 38-year-old Navas will join Efraín Juárez’s team for the Leagues Cup competition, where they will face:

  • Atlanta United
  • Orlando City
  • Inter Miami CF

“Keylor Navas is no longer part of the squad and will continue his career with Pumas of México,” stated the official Newell’s Old Boys announcement.

This transfer comes after Navas spent just six months at the Argentine club. Pumas needed a goalkeeper following Álex Padilla‘s return to his parent club Athletic Club — Navas‘s decision to join was influenced by his desire to play in Liga MX, closer to his home country Costa Rica.
