Sporting CP to fine Viktor Gyökeres for skipping preseason training

According to ESPN, Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres faces financial penalties after failing to attend the club’s preseason training session on Saturday. Club president Frederico Varandas has responded firmly to the situation.

The Swedish player reportedly neared a move to Arsenal after reaching a five-year personal contract agreement. Manchester United also showed interest in his services, though they prioritized Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo.

“We remain calm. Everything can be resolved with the transfer window closure, a substantial fine, and an apology to the team,” Varandas told news agency Lusa.

“If they don’t want to pay Viktor’s fair market value, we’ll be very comfortable with that for the next three years. No one is above the club’s interests. Whoever they are.”

Sporting CP is scheduled to face Scottish champions Celtic in a friendly match at Estadio Algarve this Wednesday.
