Spire Motorsports Penalizes Carson Hocevar for Controversial Comments

Spire Motorsports has taken firm action against their driver Carson Hocevar following a controversial incident during a Twitch livestream — the 22-year-old made disparaging comments about Mexico.

As a consequence, the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series rookie has been fined $50,000 and required to complete cultural awareness training. The fine will be distributed to three charitable organizations:

  • Cruz Roja Mexicana
  • Un Kilo de Ayuda
  • Fondo Unido México

“These actions align with Spire Motorsports’ core value of RESPECT, which we proudly display on every race car, team uniform, and digital channel,” the team stated.

Hocevar acknowledged his mistake and issued an apology:

“I was skeptical about this trip and believed everything I read or heard about Mexico City. After actually being here and racing in front of such passionate fans, my opinion has changed. I am embarrassed by my comments.”

The team confirmed that these sanctions have been consulted with NASCAR and meet the governing body’s requirements.
