Spanish Police: Diogo Jota Was Speeding Before Fatal Accident

Spanish police have revealed that Liverpool player Diogo Jota was suspected of driving over the speed limit before the fatal accident that claimed his and his brother’s lives last week.

Spain’s Civil Guard stated — while investigation continues — Jota’s Lamborghini veered off course after a tire burst on a road section with a 120 km/h speed limit.

Jota was traveling to Santander to cross to England by ferry — this arrangement was made as he was advised against flying following a recent lung procedure.

The brothers were laid to rest in Gondomar, Portugal. André Silva, Jota’s brother who played for Penafiel, also perished in the incident.

Thousands of fans have visited Anfield stadium to pay their final respects — while Liverpool has postponed their preseason training schedule. The summer opening match against Preston North End scheduled for July 13 remains uncertain.
