Soriano reveals Manchester City’s transfer strategy after difficult season

Ferran Soriano, Manchester City CEO, has acknowledged that the club has accelerated their recruitment strategy — after last year’s quiet transfer window contributed to a disappointing season for Pep Guardiola’s team.

In the January transfer window, City spent £180 million to bring in Omar Marmoush, Nico Gonzalez, Vitor Reis, and Abdukodir Khusanov. This summer, the club has invested over £100 million to recruit Rayan Cherki, Rayan Aït-Nouri, Tijjani Reijnders, and Marcus Bettinelli.

“This is part of multi-year planning. Last summer we only bought one new player, but this year between winter and summer it will be eight new ones,” explained Soriano.

Meanwhile, City is also considering departures for several players — including Jack Grealish, Kyle Walker, and Kalvin Phillips. Amid these transfer activities, the team has just started their Club World Cup campaign with a 2-0 victory over Morocco’s Wydad AC.
