Somkiat Chantra suffers knee injury, to miss two MotoGP rounds

Idemitsu Honda LCR rider Somkiat Chantra has suffered a lateral collateral ligament injury to his right knee during off-road training.

The incident occurred just two days after his historic achievement — scoring his first premier class MotoGP points with a 15th place finish at Assen Circuit.

The Thai rookie will undergo surgical procedure at Hospital Universitari Dexeus, Barcelona — forcing him to miss the upcoming two race rounds at Sachsenring and Brno.

Before his injury, Chantra’s rookie season performance was less prominent compared to fellow newcomers:

  • Ai Ogura who achieved fourth position
  • Fermin Aldeguer who secured third podium
