Socceroos wonderkid Nestory Irankunda joins Watford on five-year deal

According to Watford’s official website, Nestory Irankunda — Australia’s young national team talent — has officially joined the English Championship club on a five-year contract.

Watford’s sporting director, Gian Luca Nani, expressed his pride in securing the 19-year-old player:

“Nestory was extremely sought after and thanks to our established scouting network, we were able to be ahead of others. We could move quickly when opportunities like this arise.”

The player known for his signature backflip celebrations previously represented Bayern Munich but had limited playing time. For Bayern’s second team, he scored four goals in 15 appearances before being loaned to Grasshopper Club Zurich.

Irankunda started his career with Adelaide United — scoring 16 goals in 61 matches and winning the A-League Young Player of the Year award last season. With the Australian national team, he has collected five caps and recorded his first goal against Palestine.
