Simon Santoso discusses badminton regeneration after Ginting-Christie era

Simon Santoso, former Indonesian men’s singles badminton player now serving as PB Jaya Raya’s coach, highlights the importance of regeneration following the Anthony Sinisuka Ginting and Jonatan Christie era.

In his two-year coaching role, Simon accompanied his protégé Denis Azzarya at the 2025 Asian Junior Championships held at GOR Manahan, Surakarta. Denis had to acknowledge the superiority of Chinese player Liu Yang Ming Yu, losing 10-21, 11-21 in the quarter-finals.

“This is Denis’s first time competing in an Asian championship and experiencing matches against Chinese players. In terms of physique and strength, his opponent was indeed superior,” Simon stated.

“Although he managed to keep pace until mid-game, Denis couldn’t maintain disciplined play. He sometimes made unforced errors and got caught up in his opponent’s game, but overall his performance was quite satisfactory,” he added.
