Simon McNamara Returns to Lead General Motors’ Supercars Program

General Motors has taken an important step by appointing Simon McNamara as Supercars Racing Program Manager — marking the industry veteran’s return to a crucial role he previously held.

While Chevrolet currently leads the 2025 championship through Will Brown and has won 38 of 52 races in the past two seasons — the team faces significant challenges for next year. Triple Eight will switch to Ford Mustang, while Walkinshaw Andretti United plans to run Toyota.

McNamara, who previously served as Holden Motorsport Manager during 2007-2017, has an impressive track record — securing eight driver titles and ten team championships with Triple Eight after acquiring the team from Ford.

The 2026 grid changes will present the following composition:
  • 10 Ford Mustang cars
  • 8 Chevrolet Camaro cars
  • 6 Toyota Supra cars

Despite short-term challenges, McNamara’s return indicates General Motors’ strong commitment to the Supercars program — regardless of their Formula 1 involvement through Cadillac.
