Shi Yu Qi gets revenge in Japan Open 2025 final

Shi Yu Qi claimed the Japan Open 2025 title after defeating French player Alex Lanier at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium. Today’s match showcased the Chinese player’s dominance as he won in straight games.

This victory served as a moment of redemption for Shi — who was eliminated in last year’s semifinals by Lanier, who was then just 19 years old. The achievement also added to China’s collection of titles in this Super 750 tournament.

China secured a total of three titles at Japan Open 2025:

  • Men’s singles: Shi Yu Qi
  • Mixed doubles: Jiang Zhen Bang/Wei Ya Xin
  • Women’s doubles: Liu Sheng Shu/Tan Ning

The match began evenly with Lanier taking a brief 6-5 lead. Although Lanier managed to level the score at 7-7, Shi took control of the game — securing a narrow 9-8 advantage before extending it to 11-9 at the interval.
