Shi Yu Qi Advances to Japan Open 2025 Semifinal

Shi Yu Qi secured a spot in the Japan Open 2025 semifinal after defeating Taiwan’s Wang Tzu-wei in a match held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium on Friday (July 18, 2025).

The world number three men’s singles player wrapped up the match in 49 minutes with a convincing win. Their head-to-head record now stands at 6–1 in favor of Shi Yu Qi.

Shi Yu Qi remains the only representative from China left in this BWF Super 750 tournament, after Li Shi Feng withdrew yesterday during his match against Wang, which ended with a score of 21-17, 3-11.

In today’s match, Shi Yu Qi led 8–4 early in the first game. Wang turned things around to lead 9–8, but Shi Yu Qi, who played more consistently in the closing phase, sealed the game with a 21–19 victory.
