Sheringham Slams Rashford’s Reported Barcelona Move: “You Must Value Playing for Man United”

Manchester United legend Teddy Sheringham has launched a scathing critique of Marcus Rashford amid reports the forward is pushing for a move to Barcelona.

Rashford recently completed a loan spell at Aston Villa, where he recorded four goals and six assists in 17 appearances. However, Villa opted not to activate the £40 million buy option, reportedly due to their failure to qualify for the Champions League.

“If you look at Marcus Rashford’s position as a professional footballer, you fight from a young age to reach the top and play for a club like Manchester United. Once you’re there, you must value it,” Sheringham told Sky Bet.

Rashford, who has scored 138 goals in 426 appearances for United, is now at a crossroads after reportedly submitting a transfer request. With Nico Williams extending his contract at Athletic Bilbao, Barcelona has emerged as his preferred destination.

The England international is said to be one of five players seeking to leave Old Trafford this summer, alongside:

  • Jadon Sancho

  • Alejandro Garnacho

  • Antony

  • Tyrell Malacia

Sheringham’s comments reflect growing concern among United legends and supporters about Rashford’s recent form and commitment. The potential move has sparked heated debate, especially given Rashford’s status as a homegrown star and club icon.
