Shane van Gisbergen dominates NASCAR race in Mexico despite illness

Shane van Gisbergen from Trackhouse Racing claimed a dominant victory at Mexico City Circuit — beating Christopher Bell in second place and Chase Elliott in third with a gap of nearly 17 seconds.

Despite facing flight delays and poor health conditions, the New Zealand driver delivered an impressive performance — even when the track was hit by rain during the race.

“I’ve really enjoyed racing here despite feeling under the weather. Our car was amazing today. It was such a pleasure to push lap after lap and watch the rivals getting smaller in the mirror,” said van Gisbergen.

This victory marks van Gisbergen’s second in the NASCAR Cup Series following his maiden win at the 2023 Chicago Street Course — the achievement also secures his playoff position alongside teammate Ross Chastain.

The race was dramatic with a crash incident involving Kyle Busch, Kyle Larson and several other drivers — but van Gisbergen managed to avoid trouble and led calmly until the finish line.
