Shane van Gisbergen dominates NASCAR race at Sonoma

Shane van Gisbergen showcased his dominance in NASCAR Cup Series with an impressive victory at Sonoma Circuit. The New Zealand native led 97 of 110 total race laps — bringing Team Red Bull their first victory in this series after nearly 14 years of waiting.

Chase Briscoe emerged as the best runner-up throughout the race. Despite having several overtaking opportunities during restarts, he chose to respect van Gisbergen and finished in second place — his best result at this road course circuit.

The race was marked by several incidents — Ryan Blaney endured a tough day after multiple contacts and finished 36th, while tensions flared in pit lane when Ty Gibbs and Brad Keselowski’s crews nearly engaged in a fight following a dangerous incident.

In the Xfinity Series category the day before, 18-year-old driver Connor Zilisch managed to withstand van Gisbergen’s pressure to secure a dramatic victory — making him the only driver to defeat the champion this weekend.
