Shane van Gisbergen dominates NASCAR Cup Series qualifying at Sonoma

Shane van Gisbergen strengthens his position as one of this season’s top drivers by claiming pole position at Sonoma — marking his fourth consecutive pole across Cup and Xfinity Series.

Kyle Larson offered high praise for van Gisbergen before the qualifying session.

“He’s so good, and it’s rare that you see somebody stand out and distance himself from the competition as much as he is. He’s way better than us at the road course stuff. He’s got his own technique — right-foot braking and clutching,” Larson stated.

Larson also highlighted van Gisbergen’s development on oval tracks — an aspect that remains relatively new to the driver.

Sonoma Circuit, one of the legendary road courses alongside Watkins Glen, presents its own challenge to drivers. Van Gisbergen managed to set a time 0.250 seconds faster than Chase Briscoe, who will start from second position.
