Shane van Gisbergen Dominates Historic NASCAR Cup Race in Mexico

Shane van Gisbergen delivered a commanding performance in NASCAR Cup Series’ historic Mexico debut — the first points race outside the United States since 1958. The three-time Supercars champion led 60 of 100 laps with a 16.5-second margin of victory.

Home favorite Daniel Suarez thrilled local spectators by winning the NASCAR Xfinity race a day earlier, despite starting from last place in a backup car.

Several incidents marked the race — Kyle Busch was involved in a crash with six other cars during wet conditions, while Carson Hocevar faced confrontation from Ricky Stenhouse Jr following an on-track collision.

  • Ty Gibbs lost leading position due to unfortunate caution timing
  • Cole Custer achieved season-best result in eighth place
  • Alex Bowman finished fourth despite lingering pain from previous crash
  • Ty Dillon dropped to 33rd after showing promising performance

“I’m gonna beat your ass,” Stenhouse Jr told Hocevar after the race.
