The LaLiga match between Sevilla and Atletico Madrid at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium was temporarily suspended after supporters threw yellow cards onto the pitch — as a protest against club management.

Hundreds of supporters gathered outside the stadium before the match to protest against club president José María del Nido Carrasco. During the second half, fans in the north stand raised yellow cards and displayed a banner demanding the resignation of “Junior” — Del Nido Carrasco’s nickname.

Referee Cesar Soto Grado paused the game for several minutes — while stadium staff cleaned Atletico goalkeeper Jan Oblak’s penalty area covered with cards. Stadium announcements twice requested spectators to refrain from throwing objects onto the pitch.

Sevilla currently sits 11th in the LaLiga standings and recently suffered their first derby defeat against Real Betis in seven years. The club that has won seven Europa League titles — with their last triumph two years ago, is facing internal conflict between the current president and his father, José María del Nido Benavente, who is the former president and major shareholder.
