Severe Weather Forces IndyCar to Cancel Practice Sessions at Iowa Speedway

Extreme weather disrupted IndyCar’s schedule at Iowa Speedway — Friday’s practice sessions were cancelled due to tornado warnings in the area.

As tornado sirens sounded around the circuit, all IndyCar and Indy NXT personnel took shelter in the Newton Club suites and media center — the sturdiest permanent structures at the facility.

The revised schedule for Saturday includes:

  • Practice session: 09:00 CT
  • Qualifying session: 12:30 CT
  • Synk 275 race: 16:00 CT

The 2025 IndyCar Series is currently led by Alex Palou from Chip Ganassi Racing with 430 points and six victories, followed by Kyle Kirkwood from Andretti Global with 317 points. In the previous race, Scott Dixon became the third winner this season after capitalizing on his teammate Palou’s mistake.

Iowa Speedway presents an interesting dynamic — while Honda has dominated the 2025 season, Chevrolet has won the last nine races at this circuit.
