According to Reuters, Serie A announced the postponement of three Saturday fixtures due to their coincidence with Pope Francis’ funeral in Rome.

The Inter Milan versus AS Roma match at San Siro — has been rescheduled for Sunday at 15:00 local time. Earlier speculation suggested this match might proceed as planned due to Inter needing additional rest before their Champions League semifinal against Barcelona.

Pope Francis — the first Latin American leader of the Roman Catholic Church — passed away at age 88. The funeral service will be held at St. Peter’s Square before burial at the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore.

Other affected matches:

  • Lazio vs Parma in Rome rescheduled to Monday at 20:45

  • Como vs Genoa moved to Sunday at 12:30

Serie A had previously postponed Monday’s matches following the Pope’s passing and rescheduled them for Wednesday. The Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) requested the suspension of all sporting events scheduled for Saturday.

This decision reflects Italy’s deep respect for religious traditions and national mourning, with the football community aligning in tribute to a global spiritual leader.
