Sergio Van Dijk voices concern about PSSI’s naturalization program, which he believes could potentially decrease local players’ motivation.

This statement comes ahead of Indonesia’s crucial 2026 World Cup qualification match against Australia in Group C — with both teams separated by just one point in the current standings.

Van Dijk — born in the Netherlands and having played in the Australian league before naturalizing for Indonesia — holds unique experience as one of Indonesia’s first naturalized national team players.

The 42-year-old striker had an impressive record in the A-League with Brisbane Roar and Adelaide United before joining Persib Bandung about 12 years after his naturalization.

Despite his impressive club track record, his international career with the Indonesian national team was limited, with only six appearances, due to coaching decisions and FIFA sanctions in 2015.
