Sebastian Driussi suffered a serious injury incident during River Plate’s match against Urawa Reds in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, which took place at Lumen Field, Seattle.

River Plate — the Argentine representatives managed to overcome the Japanese team with a 3-1 score in the tournament opener. Facundo Calidio opened the scoring in the 12th minute.

Misfortune struck Driussi when scoring his team’s second goal in the 48th minute — he sustained a serious left ankle injury upon landing after an aerial duel with goalkeeper Shusaku Nishikawa.
