Scott Dixon from Chip Ganassi Racing — topped the Indianapolis test session with a speed of 225.182 mph at the legendary 2.5-mile circuit. The 2008 Indy 500 champion outpaced Josef Newgarden, the two-time defending Indy 500 winner, who recorded 225.125 mph in his No. 2 Team Penske Chevrolet.

The top five consisted of Takuma Sato in third, Marcus Armstrong fourth, and Colton Herta fifth. Meanwhile, Alex Palou, Helio Castroneves, Felix Rosenqvist, Marco Andretti, and Kyle Kirkwood completed the top ten.

“It’s testing – just trying to get through the test list with lots of changes,” said Dixon, who has competed in 22 consecutive Indy 500s. “This is our first time with the hybrid here, which adds some elements and makes it interesting. I think it will determine a lot race-wise, maybe even for the shootout at the end.”

The session experienced a three-hour delay due to connectivity issues at the track — then was extended by one hour to compensate for the delay. All 34 drivers planning to compete in next month’s Indy 500 took to the track, with Kyffin Simpson recording the most laps at 85.

Kyle Larson, the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion who will attempt ‘The Double’ again this year — successfully completed his refresher test and finished eleventh. In terms of no-tow speeds, Felix Rosenqvist emerged as the fastest with 220.835 mph.

The next session will begin at 9:30 AM EST on Thursday — with increased turbo boost that will result in higher speeds before being reduced to race levels for the afternoon session.
