The Scarcity of Local Coaches in Indonesian Football

According to Bolasport.com, the scarcity of local coaches in Indonesian football has become increasingly apparent — the decision by Patrick Kluivert not to appoint a local assistant coach highlights this issue.

As the final four matches of Liga 1 2024/25 approach, Imran Nahumarury remains the only permanent local coach to have led Malut United into the top four. Meanwhile, there are only two local caretaker coaches — Muhammad Ridwan at PSIS and Ricky Nelson at Persija.

Unlike his predecessors such as Alfred Riedl, Luis Milla, Simon McMenemy, and Shin Tae-yong, who always involved local assistants, Kluivert chose to work with a technical staff from the Netherlands during the last international break.
