Sam Coffey extends contract with Portland Thorns until 2027

According to ESPN, United States midfielder Sam Coffey has extended her contract with Portland Thorns — a deal that will keep her at the club through the 2027 season.

The 26-year-old Thorns captain signed the contract extension about a year ago, though both parties chose not to announce it at the time. Her previous contract signed in late 2022 was due to expire this season.

The New York City native is now in her fourth season with the Thorns with an impressive record — appearing in 93 league and cup matches and scoring four goals. Her individual achievements include making the NWSL Best XI in 2022 and 2023.

At international level, Coffey has become a key force in the US national team midfield — recording 34 appearances and two goals. Her role was vital in the United States’ success in winning Olympic gold last year, where she played in almost every match.
