Sainz Fails to Reach Q2 in Canadian GP After Hadjar Incident

Carlos Sainz faced major disappointment in Canadian GP qualifying — the Ferrari driver was eliminated in Q1 after being impeded by Racing Bulls’ Isack Hadjar.

Despite showing promising pace during practice sessions, Sainz will start from 17th position — the incident with Hadjar cost him valuable time through several corners.

“I don’t care how fast I was before. If in Q1 there’s a driver in the middle of the road that ruins your qualifying, it means your weekend is destroyed,” Sainz expressed frustratedly.

The Spanish driver lost significant time due to dirty air and having to lift through several corners — the margin that kept him from Q2 was merely 20 milliseconds.

Hadjar, who progressed to Q3 and finished ninth, acknowledged the misunderstanding.

“I never impede anyone. I was told Carlos had aborted his lap, but he was still pushing. It was purely a communication error,” explained the French driver.
