Sabar/Reza fail to win Indonesia Open 2025 title

Men’s doubles pair Sabar Karyaman Gutama and Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani — Indonesia’s sole representatives reaching the Indonesia Open 2025 finals — had to settle for silver medals after losing to South Korean pair.

In an intense final match, Sabar/Reza succumbed to Kim Won Ho/Seo Seung Jae with scores of 21-18, 19-21, and 12-21.

Disappointing results also came from other Indonesian representatives — top players like Jonatan Christie, Putri Kusuma Wardani, and Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto were eliminated before reaching the final round.

“This minor result adds to the long list of Indonesian badminton team failures in various prestigious events since January. Who should be held responsible,” expressed Iwan, an Indonesian badminton enthusiast.

The Indonesian team’s achievement record in the first six months of 2025 — only managing to collect two championship titles — has become a focus of attention for the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI).
