Aryna Sabalenka Battles Past Bouzkova at Wimbledon 2025

JAKARTA, July 3, 2025 — Second seed Aryna Sabalenka held her nerve to overcome a spirited challenge from Marie Bouzkova, winning 7‑6(4), 6‑4 to book her place in the third round of Wimbledon 2025.

On a warm afternoon on Court No.1, the Belarusian battled through an inconsistent first set marked by unforced errors and heavy pressure from Bouzkova’s deep groundstrokes. Despite an early service break, Sabalenka regained her footing, forcing a tiebreak that she closed out 7-4 with two clean winners.

In the second set, Sabalenka broke early and controlled most of the rallies with her trademark power, sealing the match in 1 hour and 41 minutes.

Match Stats:

  • Aces: Sabalenka – 8 | Bouzkova – 2

  • Winners: Sabalenka – 31 | Bouzkova – 17

  • Unforced Errors: Sabalenka – 24 | Bouzkova – 19

  • Break Points Converted: Sabalenka – 2/5 | Bouzkova – 1/3

“It wasn’t my best tennis at the start, but I’m happy I stayed calm and found a way through. I know I have more levels to reach,” Sabalenka said in her on-court interview.

Form Watch: Sabalenka’s 2025 So Far

The 26-year-old has enjoyed one of the best seasons of her career, having:

  • 🏆 Won the Australian Open in January

  • 🥈 Reached the French Open final in June

  • 📈 Maintained a 38–5 win-loss record this year across all surfaces

Sabalenka, widely regarded as one of the most physically dominant players on tour, has sharpened her mental game in 2025, showcasing increased patience and control in pressure moments.

Next Round Preview: Sabalenka vs. Marta Kostyuk

In the third round, Sabalenka will face Marta Kostyuk, the rising Ukrainian talent who upset 28th seed Elise Mertens in straight sets. Kostyuk’s speed and counter-punching style could test Sabalenka’s consistency, especially if the Belarusian struggles with early-set rhythm again.

Their head-to-head is currently 2–0 in favor of Sabalenka, with their last meeting on hard court ending in a straight-sets win for the world No. 2.

Race to the Title

With early exits from top seeds like Jessica Pegula and Ons Jabeur, the path to the Wimbledon final looks more open than expected. Still in the draw are:

  • Elena Rybakina (defending champion)

  • Iga Swiatek (world No. 1)

  • Coco Gauff (No. 3 seed)

Sabalenka, still chasing her first Wimbledon crown, has made the semifinals here twice but has yet to break through on Centre Court glory.

Aryna Sabalenka may not have delivered her cleanest performance, but her ability to grind out a win under pressure once again highlights why she’s among the tournament’s top contenders.

As the field narrows, her focus, firepower, and Grand Slam experience could prove decisive in the business end of Wimbledon 2025.
