Ryan Blaney faced heartbreak at the Homestead-Miami NASCAR Cup Series race after his No. 12 Ford Mustang suffered a sudden engine failure while leading. The Team Penske driver had dominated much of the race, leading 124 of 267 laps.

While running third behind Kyle Larson and Bubba Wallace, Blaney’s car emitted thick white smoke — a clear sign of catastrophic engine damage.

“I didn’t have any warning. It just laid over when I went wide-open down the front. We had a really fast car but it just didn’t work out,” Blaney said.

Third Consecutive DNF for Blaney

This was Blaney’s second engine failure in two weeks, following a similar issue in Phoenix. Combined with his crash in Las Vegas, Blaney now has three consecutive DNFs in the last six races.
