Two-time champion Ruud Begins Swiss Campaign with Straight-Sets Victory

Two-time champion Casper Ruud began his 2025 Swiss Open campaign in commanding fashion, defeating Swiss wildcard Jérôme Kym 6-3, 6-2 in the opening round on Tuesday.

The world No. 9, who won the Gstaad title in 2021 and 2022, needed just 76 minutes to secure the win on the clay courts he knows well. Ruud dominated from the baseline, converting four break points and winning 80% of his first-serve points.

“I’m always happy to be back in Gstaad,” Ruud said after the match. “It’s a special place for me, and I’m looking forward to the next round.”

The Norwegian is aiming for his third title of the season and will next face Albert Ramos-Viñolas in the quarterfinals—a repeat of their 2021 final.

Ruud’s strong start reinforces his reputation as one of the top clay-court players on tour and a serious contender for the title in Gstaad once again.
