Russell Laments Mercedes’ “Perfect Storm” at Austrian GP

George Russell endured a difficult day with Mercedes at the Austrian GP – a situation he described as a “perfect storm” for the team.

Following their victory in Canada two weeks ago, Mercedes again struggled with high temperatures at Spielberg. Andrea Kimi Antonelli crashed out on the opening lap, while Russell could only manage fifth place, finishing more than 30 seconds behind the race leader.

“This was truly a perfect storm. The track surface is among the roughest of the season, plus track temperatures reached 50 degrees,” Russell stated.

Despite the disappointing result, Mercedes trails Ferrari by just one point in the constructors’ standings. Fourth-placed Red Bull failed to score points following Antonelli’s incident with Verstappen.

Russell hopes for more favorable weather when the teams compete at Silverstone next weekend – remembering Mercedes’ impressive showing there last year under cooler track conditions.
