Rose Lavelle returns with goal as United States defeat Ireland 4-0

Rose Lavelle marked her international comeback with a stellar performance — scoring a goal and providing an assist as the United States defeated Ireland 4-0 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, Colorado.

“Rose’s goal was sublime in every way. It was exactly what we had asked for at halftime,” said US coach Emma Hayes after the match.

Following a seven-month absence due to ankle surgery, Lavelle played for 59 minutes and contributed to the opening goal with an assist for Avery Patterson. Sam Coffey doubled the lead before halftime, followed by Lavelle’s goal from Ally Sentnor’s cross, while Alyssa Thompson completed the scoring with a brilliant individual effort.

Three players made their international debuts in this match:

  • Claudia Dickey (goalkeeper)
  • Lilly Reale (defender)
  • Jordyn Bugg (defender)

The US women’s national team will continue their series of friendlies against Ireland in Cincinnati and Canada in Washington D.C, before reconvening in October for 2027 World Cup preparations.
