Rosberg criticizes Ferrari’s messy strategy at Canadian GP

Nico Rosberg, the 2016 Formula 1 champion, criticizes Ferrari’s subpar performance at the Canadian GP — calling the team’s strategy messy and ineffective.

Poor results from Charles Leclerc in fifth and Lewis Hamilton in sixth have pushed Ferrari down to third in the constructors’ standings — trailing McLaren by 191 points.

“There were lots of strategy mistakes because they stopped Lewis in the middle of traffic which cost him loads of race time,” Rosberg stated during the Sky Sports F1 Show podcast.

Team troubles escalated when Lewis Hamilton’s car sustained damage after hitting a groundhog on lap 9 — resulting in a 20-point downforce loss equivalent to half a second per lap.

“I was feeling quite good until then. I got a good start and maintained position. I didn’t see it happen but I heard I hit a groundhog. That’s devastating because I really love animals,” Hamilton explained.

Ferrari now prepares for the Austrian GP scheduled at the Red Bull Ring in late June.
