Roman Abramovich has finally broken his silence about the £2.5 billion sale of Chelsea FC to Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, as revealed in the upcoming book “Sanctioned” by journalist Nick Purewal.

Set for release in summer 2025, the book features Abramovich’s first in-depth interview in nearly two decades, offering rare insights into the emotional and political complexities behind the sale.

Abramovich, who took over Chelsea in 2002, was forced to relinquish ownership after being sanctioned by the UK Government in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

During his 20-year reign, Chelsea achieved immense success:

  • 2 UEFA Champions League titles
  • 5 Premier League championships
  • Multiple domestic and European trophies

Though the club initially struggled under new ownership, Chelsea is now resurging and pushing for a return to the Champions League.

The book also documents the intense and complicated sale process, supported by over 50 exclusive interviews with key figures involved in the transition.
