Richard Lietz achieves back-to-back Le Mans wins despite career uncertainty

According to Motorsport.com, Richard Lietz secured his second consecutive LMGT3 class victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Manthey Racing.

The 41-year-old driver thought his career was ending last year — but unexpected calls from Manthey mechanics changed everything.

“Well, to be honest, last year was a crazy one because I was basically ready to stop driving. And then Manthey mechanics called and asked if I wanted to drive for them,” Lietz revealed.

Alongside teammates Riccardo Pera and Ryan Hardwick, Lietz dominated the race after the WRT team’s BMW M4 GT3 encountered electronic issues. This victory marks his sixth win from 19 Le Mans starts.

Superior tire management and Hardwick’s consistent performance — proved crucial in this race with minimal yellow flag interruptions.

Despite currently leading the WEC LMGT3 standings, Lietz’s future remains uncertain as his contract expires. “I’m 41 years old and there are many young drivers who want my job. It all depends on Porsche’s decision,” he added.
