Rian/Gabriel eliminated in first round of Canada Open 2025

Rian Agung Saputro and Gabriel Chritopher Winta Wijaya — Indonesia’s men’s doubles pair — had to end their journey at Canada Open 2025 after being defeated by Taiwanese duo Chen Zhi Ray/Lin Yu Chieh in the first round.

Playing at Markham Pan Am Centre, Ontario, the Indonesian pair suffered a straight-game defeat with scores of 17-21, 15-21 — the match lasted for 31 minutes.

Despite taking an early lead with two consecutive points, Rian/Gabriel struggled against the pressure from the sixth seeds of this BWF Super 300 tournament — both pairs were involved in four deadlocks.

Chen/Lin managed to exploit gaps in Rian/Gabriel’s defense to lead the first interval with a score of 11-8. After the break, although Rian — known as former Mohammad Ahsan’s partner — and Gabriel showed resistance, they still couldn’t overcome the Taiwanese pair’s dominance.
