Renato Paiva dismissed from Botafogo during 2025 FIFA Club World Cup

Renato Paiva has been officially dismissed from his position as Botafogo’s head coach during the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup — a surprising decision considering the team’s promising performance.

Botafogo, who qualified for this tournament as the 2024 Copa Libertadores champions, actually secured that title under Artur Jorge — the coach who also led the team to the Brazilian Serie A championship in the same year.

Paiva, the 55-year-old Portuguese coach who had only been managing the club nicknamed Fogao for five months, showed positive signs early in the tournament — his team managed to defeat Seattle Sounders 2-1 in their Group B opener.
