Reggie Cannon wins CAS appeal against Boavista, receives major compensation

According to GiveMeSport, Colorado Rapids defender Reggie Cannon has successfully won his appeal against Portuguese club Boavista at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

The CAS ruling — which overturns FIFA’s previous decision — requires Boavista to pay compensation of approximately $468,000 to Cannon.

“It’s an amazing feeling. Like a big wave of relief that this is officially done and I can move forward,” Cannon told ESPN.

The dispute began when Cannon unilaterally terminated his contract with Boavista due to payment delays — out of 29 scheduled payments, the club was late 28 times, ranging from 5 to 98 days.

Previously, FIFA had ordered Cannon and Queens Park Rangers to pay $1.4 million to Boavista, but that decision has now been annulled by CAS.

The player, who has made 28 appearances for the United States national team, joined Colorado Rapids last season after stints with Boavista (2020-2023) and QPR.
