According to FIFA’s official website, Inter Milan secured their spot in the round of 16 of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup after defeating River Plate 2-0 at Lumen Field, Seattle.

The match changed dramatically when Lucas Martinez Quarta received a red card in the 66th minute — forcing River Plate to play with 10 men. Francesco Pio Esposito capitalized on the numerical advantage by scoring the opener six minutes later.

I Nerazzurri dominated with 54 percent possession and registered 16 shots on goal. Alessandro Bastoni sealed the victory with a goal in the closing stages of the match.

River Plate, who only managed 10 attempts with two shots on target — had to bury their dreams of advancing to the knockout phase of this competition.
