Red Card Controversy Marks Sudirman Cup 2025 Final

Drama Unfolds in Sudirman Cup 2025 Final

The Sudirman Cup 2025 final at Xiamen Fenghuang Gymnasium between China and South Korea was filled with drama, with a controversial red card incident overshadowing the opening mixed doubles match.

Red Card Incident Involving Huang Dong Ping

The match between Feng Yan Zhe/Huang Dong Ping and the 2023 world champions Seo Seung-jae/Chae Yu-jung lasted for 1 hour and 24 minutes. Tension escalated when the referee showed a red card to Huang Dong Ping, accusing her of returning late from a bathroom break.

Huang Dong Ping’s Controversial Red Card Decision

Huang Dong Ping, who was dealing with menstruation at the time, had tried to return as quickly as possible but had to accept the referee’s decision. This controversial call resulted in a penalty that handed the South Korean pair their first point in the deciding game.

“I was really confused at that moment. I didn’t expect to be penalized for such a short time extension. I feel very reluctant to accept it,” said Huang Dong Ping, expressing her disappointment with the decision.

China Responds Strongly Despite Setback

Despite the setback, Feng Yan Zhe/Huang Dong Ping managed to recover and scored three consecutive points, leading 3-1 after the incident.
