Red Bull’s Protests Against Russell at Canadian GP Rejected by FIA

According to FIA documents, Red Bull Racing filed formal protests against George Russell’s behavior during the safety car period at Canadian GP — focusing on unusual braking and safety car distance.

Christian Horner, Red Bull team principal, highlighted two main objections. First, Russell’s sudden braking considered erratic, and second, excessive distance maintained behind the safety car.

Mercedes team defended Russell by demonstrating that periodic braking is normal for maintaining tire and brake temperatures. Presented telemetry also showed that Max Verstappen performed similar braking in several track sections.

  • Russell’s braking deemed normal by FIA
  • Radio messages not considered unsportsmanlike
  • Safety car distance aligned with specified delta times

In a separate case, Lando Norris received a five-second time penalty after collision incident with teammate Oscar Piastri. As Norris completed over 90% of race distance, penalty wasn’t converted to grid penalty for upcoming Austrian GP.
