Red Bull returns to NASCAR Victory Lane after 14-year absence

Red Bull has just secured a historic victory in the NASCAR Cup Series through Shane van Gisbergen who dominated the race at Sonoma. This marks Red Bull’s third triumph in America’s premier stock car racing series.

Red Bull’s NASCAR journey began in the mid-2000s with their own racing team, but ceased operations at the end of 2011. This year, the energy drink brand returned to NASCAR as a sponsor for two Trackhouse Racing drivers — Shane van Gisbergen and Connor Zilisch.

Red Bull’s first NASCAR Cup Series victory came with Brian Vickers at Michigan in 2009 — a dramatic win determined by fuel strategy. Two years later, Kasey Kahne delivered their second victory at Phoenix, which also became their last win before Red Bull Racing NASCAR closed down.

At Sonoma, Van Gisbergen showed complete dominance by leading 97 of the 110 total race laps. The New Zealand driver started from pole position and remained unchallenged throughout the race — only surrendering the lead during pit stops.
