Red Bull Files Protest to FIA Regarding Russell’s Behavior at Canadian GP

Red Bull Formula 1 team has filed an official protest to FIA stewards against George Russell after the Canadian GP — a race won by the Mercedes driver ahead of Max Verstappen.

The race concluded under safety car conditions following a collision between McLaren teammates Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri — which left debris scattered across the main straight.

Red Bull submitted two protest points. First, concerning Russell’s unstable driving behind the safety car that forced Verstappen wide at the final chicane. Second, the distance Russell maintained behind the safety car allegedly exceeding the 10-car length limit.

“There have been two protests we’ve put to the stewards. First, relating to erratic driving behind the safety car, where George heavily braked while watching Max in his mirrors,” explained Christian Horner, Red Bull team principal.

“This isn’t personal against George. The regulations are very clear about the safety car. If you remember, Checo in Singapore 2022 received two penalties for similar incidents,” Horner added.

Both teams and drivers were summoned to the stewards at 17:50 Montreal time for further investigation.
